Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute

The Cambridge Institute Scientists Society (CIS Soc) was formed in July 2014. Our mission is to:

  • Establish an 'identity', and give voice to, all scientists within the Institute
  • Foster more efficient and productive interactions within the Institute
  • Encourage productive interactions between our Institute and the greater University of Cambridge and Cambridge Biomedical Campuses

CIS Soc currently has nearly 300 members, consisting of 60 postdocs and around 200 scientists and technicians, making it one of the largest Societies in the University.

In 2014/2015 we organized a chalk talk series to help prepare scientists for grant/job interviews, gave our scientists the opportunity chair the Wednesday Lunchtime Seminar series to increase their confidence and experience in chairing seminar sessions, launched a Institute mentor scheme, and hosted a number of social events during the year. We also initiated interactions with postdoc committees at both the School of Clinical Medicine and the University level and currently have representation at each.

In 2015/2016 will be expanding on these activities to include careers talks, training sessions, and an external speaker seminar series along with plenty more social events.
