Clinicians at the Institute

Research is often focused at either end of a spectrum of pure basic research or clinical studies. At the Cambridge Research Institute, our mission is to build bridges between the basic and clinical and to foster translation of discoveries between the lab and clinic. We are developing integrated programmes in selected epithelial cancers (currently lung, pancreas, prostate, breast and ovary) that span from normal biology to clinical application.

In order to be successful, we are creating an environment where basic and clinical researchers work alongside each other, learning from each other's expertise. Our clinician scientists are key to our future success, promoting interactions between laboratory scientists at the Institute and clinicians at the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and in the University of Cambridge's Department of Oncology.

Over a third of the group leaders working in the institute are clinically qualified and we have an ever growing population of doctoral and post-doctoral clinical fellows. Projects cover a broad spectrum of activity.
